To unlock and open the rear window of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, locate a small black rectangular button above and to the right of the license plate on the back door. Press this button to hear a click, signaling that the window is unlocked. Then, lift the window up to open it fully. If you ever need to replace the back window, the repair cost varies depending on your location, whether you live in the city or suburbs, and the make and model of your car. Typically, repairing a crack in the back window can cost between $100 and $200 on average, but the price may be higher for certain vehicles.

On my 2020 Jeep Cherokee, there's no button to open the back gate from the inside, so I have to access it from the exterior.

To access the rear window of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, look above and to the right of the license plate on the back door. Locate a small black rectangular button and push it upward to unlock the window. Once unlocked, lift and open the window fully.

I did what was instructed to open the back rear window of my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, and surprisingly, it worked! Now I can easily open the back window on my car. Thank you!

I have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I cannot find a way to open the hatch from the inside. I can sense what seems like a latch on the back of the inner glass, but I cannot figure out how to open it either.

For those who struggle with following instructions, the button to open the back lift gate is located on the outer part of the car. On my 2012 SRT8 Jeep, it's positioned to the right side in the middle of the chrome trim piece with "Jeep" written across it. The design is meant to blend in and not stand out. You won't find the button inside the Jeep; you'll need to get out and press it. Please refrain from making excuses about the button not being there or not being able to open it from inside the Jeep. Just take a look at the ridiculous comments and stop the noise!

Yep, my 2011 back window can be opened, but the back window on my 2017 model is permanently closed.

How can I shut it down?

I've got a button that can open up the entire back hatch, not just the part with the window.

Many older model jeeps, specifically those made before 2007, have a rear window that opens. For example, the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee allows you to open its back window using a small button located on the rear door.

  • Bruce Groh Groh

When I press the button, the car makes a beeping sound.

My 2002 model had a separate opening for the back hatch, but my 2017 model doesn't have that feature, which is unfortunate.

  • Debra F

I can't locate a button in that spot. I don't have a method to access the rear window.
