To manually shift the electronic transmission of a 2017 Ford Fusion when the battery is dead, you can carefully follow these steps. First, make sure the vehicle's wheels are blocked, the parking brake is engaged, or the car is connected to a truck bed to prevent any unwanted movement. Then, locate the plastic molding at the back of the center console and lift it to uncover a small hole in the upper right corner of the console's rear wall. Insert a screwdriver into this hole to release the gear knob. The shifter should light up, indicating power. Quickly press the side of the knob and switch it into neutral within 5-10 seconds to keep the shifter unlocked. Once the screwdriver is taken out, the shifter will remain in the chosen gear.
