If you have a scan tool or an OBD-II bluetooth dongle with the right mobile apps, you can easily reset the engine control module (ECM) for your 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. If you don't have those tools, you can use the traditional method of cutting power to the ECM. Open the hood of your Cobalt and locate the battery, which has two metal terminals with cables attached. Loosen the bolts on the cable with a black or bare end (the other one should be red) using a wrench. This is the negative cable - remove it and let your vehicle sit for about half an hour. Then, reattach the same cable and your ECM should be reset. Remember to close the hood before driving your car!
