The Chevy Colorado's 3.6-liter V6 engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission that requires 6.3 pints of Dexron VI ATF fluid. It's recommended to have a transmission flush and filter change every 30,000-50,000 miles. Check the fluid levels when the transmission temperature reaches 120 degrees. Place a drain pan under the vehicle and transmission. Unscrew the drain plug using a 15mm socket while the engine is running to allow the fluid to drain. If the fluid appears dark or black, it's a sign that it needs to be flushed and replaced. Ensure the vehicle is level for proper draining. Remove the cover bolts to access the filter housing. With the engine off, remove the fill plug bolts and use a funnel to refill the fluid.
