The theft prevention system in the 2006 Ford Freestyle is there to stop someone from stealing your car. However, if there's a problem with the system or if you use the wrong key by mistake, it might be triggered. In that case, you won't be able to start your car until you reset it. To do this, sit in the driver's seat and close the doors. Turn the key in the ignition to the ON position so that the inside lights and radio work, but the engine doesn't start. The anti-theft light will be either steady or blinking. Leave the key like this for about 10 minutes. The light should go out by that time. If it does, turn off the ignition and wait a few minutes before trying to start the car. If the car starts, the system has been reset. If not, repeat the steps. It might take up to three tries to get it right.

I misplaced the key and damaged the ignition while attempting to start the car without it. Later, I found the key, but it didn't seem to fit correctly into the ignition. I can't afford to repair the ignition. How can I get my van to start?
