If there is a leak in the oil pan of a 2010 Ford Escape, you have two options. You can replace the pan if it is cracked, which may be causing the leak. Alternatively, you can check the lines and connections to ensure they are not leaking. After addressing the issue, you will need to perform an oil change. Before starting the oil change process, make sure the vehicle has been turned off and parked for a couple of hours to allow the engine to cool down. Locate the oil pan in the engine compartment and find the drain plug underneath. Place a bucket under the plug and remove it to let the oil drain into the pan. Allow the oil to fully drain, which could take around an hour. Once it stops dripping, replace the drain plug, then identify the intake port on the top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to fill the oil pan with the appropriate amount of oil, ensuring not to overfill. It is better to be slightly underfilled than overfilled, as overfilling can result in leaks and oil burn-off. After filling the oil pan, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and the task will be complete.

If you spot an oil leak underneath your parked vehicle, it's likely that the plastic trays beneath the engine have caught the leaking oil. This can be identified by a decrease in oil level, the smell of burning oil, or even smoke coming from the engine compartment. To resolve this issue, you will need to replace the oil pan gasket.
