To change the battery of the 2017 Ford Explorer's key fob, first, separate the back and front sides of the fob. Flip the key over to find a small switch on top of the plastic panel. Press the switch with your finger or a small flathead screwdriver to release it. Then, remove the back cover of the fob to uncover a second panel that contains a metal back-up key. Use a coin or flathead screwdriver to remove this panel and access two 3-volt batteries. You can easily buy these CR2025 3-volt batteries from most stores, as they are commonly used in watches and small devices. Use the flathead screwdriver to remove the old CR2025 batteries from the Explorer's key fob and replace them. Finally, reverse the steps to reassemble the remote.

Begin by taking off the remote's plastic cover. Place the cover on the side at the bottom. The batteries are not visible yet. Use a flat screwdriver in the slot to turn and open the remote. Then, carefully remove the key fob. Start by taking out the battery. Beneath it, there will be a white piece of paper. Remove the paper and the battery from the bottom. Replace both batteries. To remove the batteries, use a flat screwdriver. Insert two new cr2025 batteries, making sure the negative (-) side faces outward.
