For the Ford F-150, replacing the shift solenoid requires a bit of effort. Begin by draining the transmission fluid to reach the solenoid. Make sure to get new fluid for refilling. The process becomes easier once you get the hang of it. Start by using the drain plug on the transmission to empty the fluid. Next, take off the side cover that shields the fluid container. This allows you to reach the solenoid. Disconnect the wires from the old solenoid and attach them to the new one. Refill the transmission with fluid and you’re set to hit the road.

Before you start, make sure the car is not running and put the chocks behind the wheels. Find the fluid compartment under the transmission and position an oil pan below it. Unscrew the bolts holding the compartment and let the fluid drain into the pan. Use a screwdriver to detach the fluid container from the transmission. This will give you access to the solenoid area. Disconnect the wire from the solenoid, then take out the solenoid. Apply transmission fluid to the new solenoid before installing it. Clean the transmission fluid container and put it back in place.
