To replace the vacuum pump on a Ford Transit, you should follow these steps. Start by removing the belt and draining the coolant. Then, disconnect all pipes and take off the intercooler pipe. But, what exactly does a vacuum pump do? A vacuum pump connects to the inlet on one or both valve covers, and sometimes the valley pan. It pulls air out of the engine, reducing the pressure buildup caused by combustion gases passing the piston rings into the pan.
