If you need to program a key fob for a Ford Transit Van, there are two main methods to do so. The first option involves using a specialized tool typically available at the dealership to sync the fob with the vehicle. If you don't have access to this tool, there's an alternative way to program it yourself. Begin by closing all the doors, opening the driver's side door, and pressing the unlock button on that door. Next, insert the key into the ignition and turn it from the off to the run position eight times within 10 seconds, without starting the engine. Once this is complete, press any button on the key fob within 8 seconds. If successful, you'll notice the door locks cycle to indicate that the programming was successful.

These directions won't do the trick for a 2020 Transit Connect because the new vans come with a different fob that requires a different programming method.

I attempted this technique on my 2012 transportation vehicle without any luck. I disassembled the key to try and replace the battery, but I had no success. The key was dirty and filled with dust, appearing to be on the brink of rusting. I cleaned it with penetrating oil, let it sit for an hour to do its magic, and then put the key back together. It worked perfectly on the first try. I hope this solution helps someone else. Cheers!
