The light usually comes on due to a communication issue between a sensor and the computer, which often occurs when the wiring is damaged or the connectors are corroded, resulting in a loss of electrical connection. To identify the sensor causing the problem, a diagnostic scan tool needs to be connected to the OBD-II port beneath the steering wheel at the bottom edge of the kick panel. Follow the instructions on the device to retrieve the code, cross-reference it to pinpoint the faulty sensor, and then either replace the sensor or trace the wiring back to the computer to check for any damaged wires.
