To reset the anti-theft system in a Ford 500, first disconnect the positive terminal cable from the battery. Insert the key in the car and turn it to the on position. Reconnect the positive cable, turn the key off, and then reset the alarm. Following these steps will allow you to restart the car properly. Issues with the anti-theft system may arise when the battery is changed or drained. A faulty pass lock sensor could also trigger the system to activate, preventing the car from starting. You can use an OBD diagnostic tool to help reset the anti-theft device if needed.

I've got a 2005 Ford Five Hundred Limited, and when my car battery died, I swapped it out. But then my horn went off and the engine wouldn't start. Turns out, it was the passive anti-theft system causing the issue. To fix it, when replacing the battery in this car, you should first disconnect the positive terminal. Then, have someone sit in the driver's seat, turn the key to start the engine, and press a small black switch under the left side of the steering wheel near the driver's knee. While they do that, another person can connect the positive terminal, and the car should start. The dealership wanted to charge me $200 to tow it in. Before I replaced the battery, when I jump-started the car, I saw multiple warning lights like check engine, transmission, and charging system. Now, after the battery change and following the steps I mentioned, all the warning lights are gone, and the car is running smoothly.
