The best solution is to replace the front brake pads, which should turn the light off. It's possible that a wire was shorted if the light persists even after changing the pads. Alternatively, clearing the code might be necessary. If you don't have a scan tool, you can disconnect both battery cables for at least 5 minutes, then touch them together briefly to discharge the capacitor storing the code. Reconnect the battery, start your Passat, and check if the warning light has disappeared.
