When the check hybrid system light in your Toyota Prius comes on, it means there's an issue with the hybrid system. Avoid driving over 40 mph and refrain from using the AC. If you can find a nearby location that can scan the vehicle, get that done first and make note of any codes displayed. If you can't find a place nearby, you can try disconnecting the 12v battery for about 2 minutes to reset all the codes. A common problem is faulty cells in the hybrid battery, which can cost between $3,000 and $5,000 to replace at the dealership, with a diagnosis fee of $150.

To fix the check hybrid system, you can try turning off the car 3 or 4 times, and then driving around a bit.

In 2012 Prius cars, to reset the system, start by going under the hood and locating the fuse box. Disconnect the large white wire after ensuring that the trunk is unlocked. Once done, open the trunk and remove the orange hybrid plug from the hybrid battery. Wait for at least 10 minutes before reconnecting the wire and plug. If no significant errors persist, the system should be reset. However, if issues continue, additional troubleshooting may be required.

2014 Prius. To fix an issue I had, I disconnected the 12v battery in the trunk, under the floor on the right-hand side, for 15 minutes. It worked for me.

Unplugging the auxiliary/start battery is effective after cleaning the MAF sensor, O2 sensors, and the throttle body following instructions from basic YouTube tutorials. My Code Reader can clear any faults. Seeing "Check Hybrid System" is not a cause for concern, so disconnecting the 12v battery will suffice - just remember to reset your clock afterwards! Proceed by connecting the code reader to search for any additional issues before considering the maintenance complete. This is our second Prius, a 2010 Tour, that we aim to maintain in good shape for a long time - it's a great ride!
