If you don't have a TPMS tool to reset the system in your Ford Escape, you can attempt the following procedure as an alternative. Although it may not be as reliable as using a calibration tool, it's better than nothing. Make sure your tires are inflated to the recommended pressure. Turn the ignition on and off three times, press the brake once, then repeat the on-off ignition sequence three more times, keeping it on during the final cycle. When you see the "Train left front tire" message on the LCD display, release air from each tire slowly as directed. Instead of using a tool, you'll be manually releasing air in this method.

Start the engine by turning the key three times. Press the brake once, and then turn the key on and off three more times. Keep the key in the "on" position the final time, and a message should appear on the dashboard.

To prepare for the relearn process, leave the driver's door open. If your vehicle has been inactive for more than 30 minutes, the sensors go offline to conserve battery power. To reactivate them, drive the vehicle at a speed of over 20 mph for 2 minutes. Make sure to park the vehicle on a flat surface before beginning the reset process, which must be initiated within a 30-minute window. With the key inserted into the ignition and turned to the on (aux) position, cycle the key from off to on three times, ending in the on position. Press the brake pedal once, then repeat the key cycling and brake pedal pressing steps. You should hear a single horn sound indicating that the relearn process has started, and a message about training the LF (driver's side) tire will appear. Begin releasing air from that tire, and when you have let out 25% of the air, the sensor should trigger a single horn honk. Proceed to repeat this process for the RF tire, RR tire, and finally the RL tire. If the horn does not honk, the sensor was not recognized. If the horn honks twice at any point, the procedure has timed out, and you will need to start over. Common reasons for failure include using an incompatible TPMS sensor, a faulty TPMS sensor, a faulty TPMS receiver, or a dead battery in the TPMS sensor.
