If your Subaru's immobilizer system has locked you out, there are several methods to get your vehicle running again depending on the specific model. The first simple approach is to hold down the panic button on your key fob for 5 seconds, then press the lock button twice. Another method is to quickly turn the key in the ignition cylinder three times and then attempt to start the car on the fourth turn. Typically, one of these techniques will work, depending on the model year of your Subaru. If you consistently face issues with your alarm system, it's advisable to reach out to a Subaru service center to ensure that there are no problems with the alarm's computer.

I've got a 2007 Subaru that's been sitting locked up for more than half a year! I took it to the dealership first, and they kept it for three months without being able to solve the problem. When I try to start it, the security light comes on after 4 seconds and it won't drive! What should I do next?

As helpful as using a wet cloth to clean yourself three times and then flushing it down the toilet. That way, if your car won't start, you can shift your attention to unclogging the toilet.

With my 2017 Subaru Forester XT, I had to remove the key from the key fob to manually unlock the driver's door. As I did this, the panic alarm went off. After hitting the lock button while the door was open, the power locks reset. The passenger side also would not unlock prior to this. It all started functioning properly again. I suspect that someone might have tried to mess with my car and then gave up. But it also seems like the electronics in the vehicle can be a bit finicky; for example, the power lift gate needs to be pressed on the fob for longer than a couple of seconds, or else it malfunctions and requires resetting.
