Limp mode serves as a safety feature that prevents the car from operating when the computer senses a transmission issue. This results in a significant drop in engine speed and the "check engine light" turning on. To exit limp mode, safely pull over to the side of the road, switch the vehicle to park, and cycle the ignition key between the "on" and "off" positions three times before starting the Jeep Cherokee to potentially reset the system. Another method is to disconnect and reconnect the battery. If limp mode persists, check the Liberty's transmission fluid levels and spark plugs. A technician will need to use an OBDII scanner to clear error codes and disable limp mode if you are unable to do so.

To get your Jeep Liberty out of limp mode, pull over and come to a complete stop. Put your automatic transmission in PARK and turn the key in the ignition to OFF. Wait for 10 seconds before starting the engine again. Select the gear you want and resume driving.

You need to disconnect the battery for around half an hour to allow the computer to reset...but usually, it won't take more than 30 minutes anyway.

I have turned on all the lights for the ice road and engaged 4-wheel drive. The rear wheels have power, but the front wheels do not have any power in 4-wheel drive, whether in high or low mode.
