Since 2007, the Dodge Nitro has come equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). This system utilizes sensors placed in the valve stem of each tire to keep track of tire pressure from a distance. These sensors communicate with the vehicle through RF signals, and if any tire's pressure drops below a set level, a warning light will illuminate on the dashboard. To reset this light, simply inflate the tire to the proper psi and then drive for 10-15 minutes at speeds over 15 mph. The sensor will detect the new pressure and the light will turn off.

To recalibrate the TPMS on the Dodge Nitro, first ensure that the tire pressure is accurate. Start the vehicle and press the reset button located on the right side of the steering wheel. Wait for ten minutes for the system to reset. If necessary, keep holding the button until the indicator light blinks.

If you want the display to update quickly (within 15-30 seconds), you can over-inflate the tire(s) by 15Psi. The sensor will detect this rapid pressure change and immediately update the display, instead of waiting around 10 minutes like usual. After the display updates, simply adjust the pressure back to the correct level, and the sensor will again promptly transmit the updated pressure reading.
