The issue of power steering assist fault is quite common in the Ford Fusion, to the extent that Ford had to issue a safety recall for certain years to address the problem. If your Fusion is showing this warning sign, the first step is to check a recall database site by entering your model year and trim to confirm if your car is affected. If it is, you should then get in touch with your nearby Ford dealership to schedule an appointment for the necessary recall service. The repair is expected to be completed within a few hours, likely on the same day you bring your car in.

I own a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL and my power steering isn't working. There's a code showing Power Steering Assist Fault. I've already looked at the fuses and they're fine. The local dealer said I'm beyond the 10-year recall period. What are my next steps?

  • Yesterday, I had an issue with my power steering assist and couldn't turn the wheel while running errands. This morning, I checked the mail and started the car, but the power steering assist fault message was gone and the wheel turned smoothly. I'm unsure whether it's safe to drive my car despite having tasks to take care of.

The Ford Fusion is currently recalling certain models due to issues with its power steering assist system. Please reach out to your dealer to learn more about this recall.

I actually experienced a similar issue recently with my own vehicle. A quick solution would be to inspect the fuse. I drive a 2018 F150, and in my case, the problem was indeed the fuse, specifically a 10 amp one. It's amusing how the concept of the fuse box seems to have slipped our minds these days. Checking the fuse is a simple and cost-effective measure. It's much better than visiting a mechanic, only to be told that you need extensive front end replacements worth thousands of dollars, when all they do is replace a fuse.

Yes, they do offer solutions, but not for the specific years and models such as mine, a 2011. They sell all power, and Ford is reluctant to provide the code or even perform a factory reset if that is all that is needed. They prefer to charge for a diagnosis and the expertise needed to fix it, resulting in a total cost of about $1700. It's no wonder people often choose foreign over domestic options.

After only 4 months past the 10-year safety warranty, we were provided a quote of $4200 to install a new steering system for the Fusion.

In my situation, I purchased a Ford Fusion 2013 a few months ago and encountered a steering assist fault. I took the car to a Ford mechanic who informed me that a new clock spring was needed. However, the part was on backorder. Subsequently, I decided to order a remanufactured clock spring from rockauto.com and replaced it myself. Despite this effort, the issue persists. I am now hesitant to rely on Ford mechanics and unsure of how to proceed. Can anyone provide insight into the components that may be causing the steering fault?

My car's warranty expired just 2 months ago, and I couldn't get any help from Ford. All they gave me were a bunch of excuses and nonsense. Why don't they reach out to owners and inform them?

I saw the message pop up for the first time today on my 2011 Ford Fusion SE. In the past, I've dealt with similar problems by turning the steering wheel from side to side, but that didn't work this time. I ended up restarting the car and trying the steering wheel trick again, which fixed the issue. If you're looking for a quick fix, I suggest giving that a try!

I own a 2010 Ford Fusion and the warning light for the electric power assist came on telling me to service it immediately. We replaced the entire power steering system, but after driving less than 10 miles, the light came back on and the steering became difficult to turn. I've already had to replace the transmission twice. Now I have to spend a lot of money to have it reprogrammed, and I don't know where to take it since it's over 10 years old and the dealership won't even consider looking at it. It's really frustrating because I've been told there was no recall for my power steering issue, but from what I've researched, there should have been one.

If there's a recall on that specific part and it wasn't addressed by the place where you purchased the car, they should have been responsible for fixing it. I am facing a similar situation with a recall that's more than 10 years old. I hired a lawyer who is taking legal action against the dealership where I bought the car, not Ford, as they should have ensured everything was in order before selling me the car. Consider seeking legal advice.

I am currently experiencing the third power steering fault on my 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Ford has deliberately chosen to only recall a limited number of VINs, despite being aware of the faulty design, in order to generate more repair revenue for their dealers. Very few independent shops are capable of performing this repair. Some individuals believe that a simple software update is all that is needed, but Ford insists on selling an entire rack system, which may not be necessary according to some sources. A quick online search reveals that this issue is widespread across various Ford models, not just the Fusion, but also their trucks. I will never consider buying from Ford again because of this inferior quality and deceptive practices. Though they have recently terminated quality executives, it is too little too late. I will no longer support Ford.

I have a 2012 Ford Fusion and recently saw a warning on my dashboard about the power steering assist. I purchased this used car just two weeks ago, and I expect the dealership where I bought it to address and resolve this issue. If this problem persists, I will not hesitate to return the car.

If an item is listed for recall, am I still required to make a payment for it?

My daughter purchased a Ford Fusion, but the power steering stopped working, and Ford refused to repair it. We have experienced ongoing issues with Ford vehicles, such as broken door handles, slipping or failing transmissions, and more. Because of this, I have decided to no longer purchase any Ford products. My daughter is currently unemployed, and her car is waiting for repairs. In my opinion, Ford is not a reliable car manufacturer.

My car has a recurring issue that needs repair for the second time, and I'm wondering if I will have to pay for it out of my own pocket at the dealership.

I have a problem with the steering assist in my Ford Fusion. I have replaced the steering box four times, but I am still experiencing the same issue.
