The upcoming Chevy Malibu models will feature front-wheel drive and won't be suitable for flat towing. This could disappoint those hoping to tow it behind a fifth wheel, as it won't be an option for this vehicle. To tow it safely, you'll need to follow the traditional method with the front wheels off the ground. Trying to flat tow this vehicle will damage the transmission.
I've been flat towing my 2015 Malibu for more than 40,000 miles. Every 150 miles, I take out 2 fuses and start the engine for a few minutes. Just drained the transmission last week - the pan was spotless and had a regular smell.
In order to tow a Chevy Malibu, you will have to raise the front wheels off the ground.
