From 2002 to 2005, some Ford Explorers may have an issue where the dome lights stay on even after the driver closes the door. For SUVs with a manual "off" button, you can fix this by using the "off" lever on the driver's dash, located to the left of the steering wheel. Make sure to check that the rear hatch is closed as well. If any of the passenger, driver's, or rear doors are open, a dome light will stay on. The hatch's sensors will detect if it's not fully closed, causing a warning light on the instrument panel to show an open door. If those steps don't work, inspect the driver's door for a faulty switch that may need to be replaced to fix the sensor.

Check out the left side of the steering wheel. There's a rotary dial surrounded by push buttons. The push button in the lower left corner is for controlling the dome lights. Just give it a push to turn the lights on or off. Unfortunately, I can't share a picture here due to forum limitations.

In my 2016 Ford Explorer, there is a rectangular button located to the left of the steering wheel that adjusts the brightness of both displays. This button also turns the dome lights on and off above the back seat and near the rear hatch door. The back seat lights can also be controlled by pressing on one side of the light itself, as there is no separate on/off switch for these lights in my car. If the lights remain on after exiting the vehicle and locking the doors with the remote, try pressing the ones that are still illuminated once and then attempt to lock the car again.
