Removing the center console in a 2002 Ford Explorer can be quite challenging due to the time and effort involved. You will need several tools, including a 7mm socket, 8mm socket, ratchet, large slotted screwdriver, and a putty knife for the process. Start by taking out the rubber mat and unscrewing the 7mm screw underneath. Then, open the console and carefully pry it out using a screwdriver. Once the console is lifted, disconnect the power point connectors and cigarette lighter wiring. Remove the wiring harness by popping it off and then use the 8mm socket to unscrew the duct.

Raise the hood of the car and secure it in the open position. Pry out the four retaining clips positioned at each corner of the center console. Take out the screws holding the cup holder in place and push it forward until it can be removed from the console. Disconnect the electrical connections for the air conditioning and radio, and then carefully lift the console out of the vehicle.
