To replace the ignition lock cylinder in a Ford F-150, first disconnect the battery for safety. Then, put the fob in the "run" position and find two small holes below the ignition on the steering column. Use a small tool to release the assembly from the side of the column with the key attached. Install the new cylinder by aligning it and twisting it to secure it in place. The steering column has a transceiver that communicates with the chip in the fob. This transceiver verifies the key and sends a signal to the truck's computer to start the engine. A new lock cylinder will include a new encoded fob. If you want to use your old key, it needs to be programmed by the dealership or with a scanner.

Turn the ignition key in your Ford truck to the "ii" position. Insert the pin or Allen wrench underneath the ignition switch in the designated release slot. Slide the pin or wrench upward as you remove the key from the ignition simultaneously.
