To detach the seats in your Toyota Highlander, you'll need to start by using a screwdriver to carefully remove two clips located at the front edge of the seats. Then, at the back of the vehicle, locate and remove two screw caps to access and loosen the bolts securing the seats in place. Each side will have 5 bolts that require a 9/16th socket to undo. Once the bolts are removed, fold the top half of the seat and pivot it towards the back of the SUV for easier removal. Since the seat is approximately 50 lbs and difficult to handle, it's advisable to have a second person assist you.

It's pretty simple. The front edge of the third row has two clips that fit into a support bar. Moving to the back of the utility compartment holding the spare tire tools, start on the right side and release the clips by using a wide, flat blade screwdriver. This will make it easier to access the 9/16 sockets that secure the seats and belts, as well as the electrical connections. Disconnecting the electrical system of the third row won't affect the safety notification system; the car just won't recognize that the seats are missing. To remove the seats more easily, have two people fold the seats, pivot them towards the rear, and take them out through the back. Pay attention to the differences in the bolts. And most importantly, remember to put the bolts back in their respective holes and tighten them finger-tight. Trust me, down the road, when you want to reinstall the seats, you'll be glad you did. I only needed extra storage space, so I cut two pieces of 1/4-inch plywood, sanded them, and customized a support bar to hold them in place and create a level platform when the second row seats are folded down. Maybe I can share some pictures. It's really easy to do and won't take forever. Good luck, Rams!
