Disabling the Vehicle Stability Control in a Toyota Sequoia is a simple process that should only require about 5 to 8 minutes of your time. It is important to understand that VSC, which stands for Vehicle Stability Control, helps to prevent slipping in hazardous conditions, so it is crucial to prioritize safety precautions. To begin, ensure that your vehicle is stationary and shift it into Park. Locate the VSC button on your dashboard screen and press it firmly for about 4 to 5 seconds. You will then observe both the VSC OFF and TRAC OFF indicators lighting up. Press the VSC button again to reset the system.

On my Sequoia Limited from 2005, there is not an option to turn off the VSC feature.

While driving at high speed, my vsc and trac lights suddenly turn on, causing the brakes to engage with a grinding sensation. I have been gently applying the brakes to slow down and regain control of the vehicle. Despite attempting to deactivate the system by holding down the vsc switch, it remains activated. I want to keep the system off temporarily until I can have it inspected by a mechanic, but I still need to drive safely in the meantime. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

The button doesn't work in 2-wheel drive to deactivate the vehicle stability control (VSC). I'm facing a similar problem where the VSC comes on unexpectedly, causing braking and grinding noises, especially when I'm towing something. It becomes really challenging to stop and regain control, which is quite frightening. Even after the incident, the VSC off and traction (trac) lights remain on until I restart the engine. I wish I could also disable it. Based on my research, it seems to be a malfunction in the sensor.

To deactivate both trac and vsc, hold down the button for three seconds. The trac off and vsc off indicators will appear. To reactivate the system, simply press the switch. Additionally, if you turn off the engine, trac and vsc will automatically reactivate when you restart the engine.

In newer Toyota Sequoias, Vehicle Stability Control, also known as "VSC," serves a similar purpose as the older traction control system found in first-generation models from 2001-2006. The VSC technology helps stabilize the SUV during high speeds, abrupt braking, or when the vehicle tilts to one side, effectively managing the rotation speed of all wheels. It intervenes if one wheel spins faster than the rest to prevent rollovers, especially in shorter-wheelbase SUVs like the Sequoia with a higher center of gravity. While the older models only disengage VSC at speeds below 5mph, newer models automatically engage it above that speed to enhance safety, particularly in situations where reckless driving maneuvers could put the vehicle at risk.

Hey Art, have you ever taken your car to a mechanic before? If so, what was the problem?
