How can I unlatch the back door of a Honda HR-V?

To open the rear door of your Honda HR-V, first ensure that your doors are unlocked. Use your remote to press the tailgate unlock button, which will unlock it. Then, press the tailgate release button on the outside of the tailgate to open it. Remember not to release the button until you have fully raised the hatch. When you unlock the tailgate with your remote and then close it, it will lock automatically. If your tailgate is having trouble opening or unlocking, consider replacing the batteries in your remote.

I'm facing a similar problem with my 2021 HRV. The unlock button on the key fob doesn't unlock the rear doors from inside the vehicle. You have to actually get out of the car and open the rear doors manually. It seems like it might be a childproof safety feature, but it's really frustrating. Do you have any suggestions on how to turn off this feature?
