How can I unlatch the hood on a Volvo big rig truck?

To access the engine compartment of a Volvo semi-truck, start by parking the vehicle on a flat surface and engaging the parking brake. Locate the hood release handle beneath the lower-left corner of the dashboard and pull it. This action will slightly raise the hood. Next, slide the hood latch lever (found underneath the front edge of the hood towards the center) and lift the hood open. Once the hood is raised a bit, release the lever. Take the support rod out of the clamp using the handle and secure it in place on the hood. When closing the hood, remove the support rod, place it back in the clamp, and gently lower the hood. Lower the hood to about 12 inches (30 cm), step back, and let it close on its own.
