If you have a Ford Escape with the power tailgate feature, there are three ways to open the trunk lift gate. You can either press the button under the handle when you walk up to the trunk, use the button inside the cabin on the lower right of the dashboard depicting an SUV with the rear open, or press and hold the lift gate button on your key fob to open it.

On the 2013 Ford Escape, the lift gate button is located all the way on the right side. It's hard for me to see it from the driver's seat unless I lean to the right because it's situated at the end of the row of defrost and heat buttons.

To open the trunk of the Ford Escape, simply press the trunk button on the control panel located on the driver's side dashboard. Look for the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel and underneath the air vent. One of the buttons has a picture of a car with the trunk door lifted. Just press that button to open the trunk.

In 2012, there is no interior release for my back hatch, so it's not securely closed. The buttons on both the key fob and the vehicle itself to release the window and hatch are also not functioning.
