To turn off the seat belt alarm in a Toyota Tacoma, first insert the key into the ignition and switch to the "on" position without starting the vehicle. Look for the small button controlling the odometer on the driver's instrument panel, usually situated to the right of the gauge cluster. Scroll through the menu options until the display shows "ODO." Then, turn the ignition back to the "off" position while keeping the key in place. Switch the fob to the "on" position and press and hold the odometer button for 10-15 seconds. Fasten your seatbelt while continuing to press the button. Let go of the button, and the instrument panel should now indicate "B off." The seat belt alarm will no longer sound when the seat belt is not engaged.

Since my truck shifts poorly as an automatic, I decided to get a tune-up. While the tuner was working on my truck, I asked him to also remove the seatbelt reminder sound and increase the number of blinks on the turn signal for lane changes. These small modifications have been quite useful, and by the way, my truck now shifts smoothly.

In the United States, the latest models of Tacomas have the option to disable the seatbelt alarm at the dealership. I plan to take care of this during my initial service visit.
