In most Ford Ranger models, the fuel filter is typically located along the fuel line, attached to the driver's side frame rail under the rear of the cab. It is a metallic canister that is a bit smaller than a 12-ounce beverage can. To remove the filter, you will need a few tools and wear adequate eye protection. When you first take out the fuel filter, there will still be pressure in the system. Start by disconnecting the fuel pump fuse while the engine is running to alleviate some of the pressure. Depress the green or orange tabs on the fuel filter and detach the lines. Install the new filter in the same manner, making sure not to damage the tabs during the process.
