If your diesel-powered Ford Transit shows a dashboard light indicating "Exhaust Overloaded, Drive to Clean" or "Exhaust at Limit, Drive to Clean Now," it's crucial to act promptly. This means that your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is full or completely blocked. You should start driving as soon as possible to trigger the automatic cleaning process. The vehicle's computer will start an active regeneration cycle by injecting raw fuel into the DPF, which will ignite and burn at a temperature between 950 to 1050 degrees Fahrenheit to clear the accumulated soot. To ensure the regeneration process is effective, drive at least 30 miles per hour (ideally 55mph to 65mph) for 15 to 30 minutes.

My vehicle recently had the diesel particulate filter cleaned, but the issue persists. Can I continue to drive, even if it's in limp mode?

My car experienced a similar issue. I drove for 40 minutes and the message still appeared. I manually cleaned it, but the message remains. Any suggestions on what to do next?

Ford Transit vehicles are of poor quality.

The diesel particulate filter (DPF) incinerates soot created by the engine, turning it into ash that is then captured by a filter. As the filter accumulates more residue over time, it needs to undergo a cleaning process known as regeneration, or regen for short. When you see this message, it's recommended to drive your Ford Transit to initiate this cleaning process.

This is absurd. I have been using eco mode while driving to save on fuel expenses and reduce my environmental footprint. Received this notification. Had to speed up on a narrow road to make way because I reside in a remote area. Can you believe this?!

I assumed it would automatically start while I was driving. However, I discovered that when I pressed "ok," it was like giving the go-ahead for the process to start. After a few minutes or ten, the actual process began, and it was completed after another 15 minutes. I was driving on roads with speeds ranging from 30 to 50 miles per hour.

I've been driving diesel vehicles for years and I've never encountered this issue before. It seems like this problem only affects Ford vehicles which is ridiculous. I'm going to file a claim under the diesel claims case. My car is a 2019 Ford Torneo Connect and out of the 28k miles I've driven, I'd say I've spent around 700 to 1000 miles dealing with this issue. I'm planning to fix it soon, can't wait!

We own a Transit Connect Van that we bought brand new. This warning light has been popping up every week since we've had it. It's a huge waste of diesel to constantly drive around cleaning it, not to mention the negative impact it has on the environment. We definitely won't be purchasing another one in the future.

Similarly, when it comes to our transit connect, we drove for 15-20 miles at 2500 rpm and fixed the issue. This maintenance task should be carried out every few months.

They have the capability to conduct a test to confirm the functionality of the system. It is essential for you to request the test to be carried out.

Thank you! This happened recently with my diesel transit vehicle.

Earlier today, I had an issue with my two-year-old Ford Courier Sport that has 20,000 miles on it. I took it for a 20-minute drive up the road in 5th gear at 2500 revolutions per minute, and that fixed the problem.

My van is still under warranty, but a warning light keeps appearing on the dashboard and the temperature gauge goes into the red, which is concerning. I'm wondering if I can take it back to the dealer, as I've had continual issues with my Connect since I purchased it.

How about this: "Speedy Ford van with turbo engine.

  • Rev360

I work as a delivery driver and I'm constantly going from one house to another, so I'm not pushing the car too hard. When the warning message appears, I rev the engine close to the redline, and the issue usually resolves itself after about 5 minutes. However, lately I've been driving more aggressively to prevent the message from coming on at all.

My work van only has 60,000 miles on it and has been taken back to the dealership multiple times for the same problem. They cleaned the filter twice and replaced some of the plumbing, all under warranty which is soon expiring. I am thinking about completely removing the regeneration system once the warranty ends because the issue seems to worsen in the cold. It's frustrating as I could easily create a lot of toxic emissions in a short time. I am really disappointed with the situation.

I recently purchased a 2015 Transit with a 3.2 diesel engine, and a message saying "EXHAUST FILTER OVERLOADED drive to clean" appeared. When I drive for less than a mile, it starts overheating to the point where power is reduced. Has this issue occurred for anyone else? Appreciate any input, thanks.

The issue of the temperature rising and falling, leading to the vehicle going into limp mode, was due to a faulty thermostat sensor in my car. Now that it's been replaced, everything is running perfectly.

I've owned my truck for over 2 years now. The day I purchased it, the check engine light turned on (it was used with 57,000 miles). The dealership has been great - they've replaced every sensor multiple times and in September, they replaced the Filter assembly under warranty. My truck now has 93,000 miles. Lately, it has been going through regen cycles daily on my way to and from work, which are 30-minute drives. After fueling up and starting a long one-hour ride home, my truck went into regen mode. I almost reached home when it started another regen cycle. This has been happening all week. Yesterday, I received a message that the filter was overloaded and that I needed to drive to clear it. I talked to the dealer, and he thinks it might be a bad sensor. He mentioned they had another truck recently with the same issue. I will schedule a service appointment soon. I just replaced the fuel and oil filter, as well as the oil filter.

I just got a notification on my dashboard, so I took a 20-minute drive right away, keeping the engine speed between 2,000 and 4,000 RPM by staying in lower gears. After about 15 minutes, the message disappeared. As an extra measure, I plan to buy some redex DPF additive in the morning. Hopefully, that will fix the issue. Lately, I've been doing mostly short drives with a lot of stop-and-go traffic instead of my usual long journeys, so this might be causing the problem.
