In the Ford Escape, you can control the rear wiper using a button located at the end of the lever. There are three settings: Off at the bottom, intermittent wipe at the top, and low-speed wipe when pressed again. When you are driving in reverse with the front wipers on, the rear wiper will automatically switch to intermittent mode. To clean the rear window, push the lever away from you to activate the wiper and disperse cleaning fluid.

At the end of the stick that controls the windshield wipers, there is a button that has three options. Make sure the rear wiper is turned off by selecting the "o" position on that button.
