To replace the battery in the key fob or transmitter of a 2017 Ford Explorer, start by separating the back and front sections of the fob. Turn the key over to find a small switch at the top of the plastic panel. Press down on the switch with your finger or a small flathead screwdriver to release it. Once the back of the fob is removed, you'll see a second panel with a metal back-up key. Use a coin or flathead screwdriver to remove this panel and access two 3-volt batteries. These CR2025 batteries can be found at most general retailers and are commonly used in watches and small devices. Use the flathead screwdriver to remove the old CR2025 batteries from the Explorer, then replace them with new ones. Finally, reassemble the key fob by following the steps in reverse order.
