To start changing a tire on a 2013 Ford Escape, ensure the car is parked on even ground first. Find the jack, lug wrench, and spare tire hidden under the carpet in the back of the vehicle. Position the jack under a frame beam near the tire you're replacing and lift the car around 5 inches using the jack handle. Use the lug wrench to loosen and take off the lug nuts, then remove the rim and old tire. Align the spare tire with the holes in the rim and fasten it in place with the lug nuts and wrench. Turn the jack handle to lower the car slowly, allowing the air to escape. Once the spare tire is firmly on the ground, tighten the nuts securely once again.

To get to the spare tire and tools, open the hatch and lift up the carpet. Position the jack behind the flat tire and lift the car slightly. Turn the lug nuts counterclockwise using the lug wrench until they loosen. Jack up the car higher, take off the nuts carefully, and then remove the tire. Put the spare tire on the trunk by aligning the holes, secure it with the lug nuts, lower the car, and finally, remove the jack.
