To reprogram the alarm on a 2008 Honda Civic, use the ignition key to turn the driver's door lock cylinder left and then right. You might need to do this process more than once. The 2008 model may have some difficulty with the door lock cylinder, which can sometimes get stuck and prevent the key from turning. The security system will arm automatically 15 seconds after you lock the doors, serving as a deterrent to potential thieves. The red security light on the dashboard will flash to show that the system is activated. Note that the system won't engage if a door, hood, or trunk is left open.
