The 2012 Toyota Camry's 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission that uses 6.9 quarts of Dexron III/Mercon ATF fluid. It is recommended to perform a transmission flush and change the filter every 30,000-50,000 miles. Check the fluid levels when the transmission temperature reaches 120 degrees. Place a drain pan under the vehicle and transmission, then remove the drain plug using a 6 mm socket while the engine is running to let the fluid drain. If the fluid appears darker or black, it's a sign that a flush and replacement are necessary. Ensure the vehicle is level for proper draining. To access the filter housing, remove the cover/pan with a 10 mm socket. When the engine is off, remove the two bolts holding the fill plug behind the front wheel, then use a funnel to refill.

To replenish the transmission fluid in a 2012 Toyota Camry, first, ensure the car is parked on level ground and open the hood. Find the transmission and locate the dipstick with a round o-ring at the end. Remove the dipstick, wipe it off, reinsert it, and check the fluid level. Identify the intake opening on the transmission and utilize a funnel if necessary. Pour the fluid into the car until the dipstick indicates it is at the full mark. Reinsert the dipstick, close the intake opening, and you're done.

Operate the car until it reaches its usual operating temperature. Then, raise the car evenly. Start the car and keep it in park. Remove the drain plug. If you see a continuous flow, there is too much oil; if it's just a drip, then the oil level is too low. Add oil through the fill screw on the driver's side behind the front tire (requires removing a 2-bolt cover) until you see a steady stream, then stop. Wait for it to sputter, then replace the drain plug. It's recommended to have two people or the appropriate tools for this task. Note that the oil level indicator sleeve is located past the drain plug. Ensure it is secure for an accurate reading. Use a 6mm hex Allen wrench to tighten it, which should be the same size as the drain plug.

Here's a revised version: Place a funnel at the opening of the transmission dipstick tube. Slowly add transmission fluid in increments of half a quart. After each addition, check the fluid level. Keep adding fluid until the level shows as full.
