Connect one end of the audio cable to your smartphone's headphone jack, and the other end to the auxiliary input jack on your car stereo. Switch the car stereo to the auxiliary input source. Keep pressing the Auxiliary (AUX) button on the Ford Escape radio until you see LINE, LINE IN, or SYNC LINE IN on the display. You should hear audio from your music player, although the volume may need adjustment. Any device with an auxiliary jack can be connected as long as it fits. This setup allows you to play music from your device through your car's speakers.
Not every Ford Escape comes equipped with an auxiliary input. If you want to use the aux input in your Ford Escape, you will need to locate it either in the center console or close to the dashboard.
