The Ford Fusion comes equipped with an electronic parking brake. To activate it, ensure the car is in park and press down on the brake pedal. You can find the parking lever between the driver and passenger seats on the center console below the gear selector. Pull up on the lever and wait for the instrument cluster to confirm that the parking brake is engaged. When working on the rear brakes, activate the park brake maintenance mode to prevent it from closing shut during maintenance. To do this, put the car in park, switch the key to the accessory position, press the gas pedal all the way down, and hold down the parking brake lever while turning the key off and back on with your other hand.
With your foot on the brake pedal and the engine running, activate the parking brake by pushing the parking brake switch.
