If you own a Ford Focus, it's important to regularly check and change the oil. Ford recommends changing the oil and brake fluid every 8,000 to 10,000 miles or at least once per year for the Focus. This car requires SAE 5w-30 viscosity fully synthetic motor oil to maintain optimal engine performance. You can purchase a quart of this oil for $3 to $12 at most auto parts stores. If you prefer to have a professional change the oil, expect to pay an extra $40 to $120 for labor in addition to the cost of the oil.
To replace the oil in the gearbox of a Ford Focus, start by taking out the drain plug located on the transmission to let it drain. After that, put back the drain plug using a new washer and fill it up with fresh automatic transmission fluid.
