To fix the liftgate on a Ford Explorer, try inserting your key into the rear lock and turning it to unlock. The latch may have shifted, causing the problem. If you're still having trouble with the liftgate and it's a power liftgate model, it could be a blown fuse preventing it from working properly. For a non-power liftgate that's having difficulty opening and closing, lubricating it will help the gears move more smoothly.
