I personally check my transmission every 15,000 miles, which is about every two oil changes. It's simpler than actually changing the oil. My Odyssey has 227,000 miles on it, and the transmission is still running smoothly. On a related note, my mother-in-law had a 2005 Odyssey. She never replaced the transmission fluid, and at 115,000 miles, the transmission failed. People have different opinions on this matter, but there are plenty of discussions on forums about it.
