The 2005 Chevy Equinox is equipped with two separate O2 sensors. One is situated on the down pipe before the catalytic converter, while the other is positioned on the exhaust following the cat. These sensors are responsible for monitoring the exhaust emissions from the engine to ensure they are within an acceptable range. If one of the sensors malfunctions, a check engine light will illuminate on your dashboard. Additionally, you may observe rough engine performance when an O2 sensor is not functioning correctly. This is because the engine control unit (ECU) lacks the necessary data on air-to-fuel ratios, impeding its ability to determine the appropriate fuel adjustments.
