The 2008 Toyota Highlander equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine requires 6.4 quarts of synthetic SAE 0W-20 motor oil. Compatible filters for your vehicle include the Toyota 04152-YZZA1, FRam XG9972, and Pennzoil-HPZ-161. When changing your oil, you will need a 10mm and 14mm socket. Position yourself under the front passenger side of the engine to locate the silver metal oil drain plug at the bottom rear edge of the black metal oil pan. Remove the bolts on the oil filter housing and pull the front edge tabs of the plastic filter access panel to release it from the engine splash shield. Place a container to collect the draining oil beneath the drain bolt and loosen it counterclockwise. Once the oil has completely drained, re-tighten the bolt. Replace the old oil filter with a new one and proceed to refill the engine with fresh oil.

In 2008, the Toyota Highlander needs 6.0 US quarts (5.7 liters) of oil. Make sure you use "Toyota Genuine Motor Oil" or a similar oil that meets the 5W-30 viscosity recommendation for the Highlander.

5w-30 is the usual suggested oil thickness. In areas experiencing colder temperatures, 0w-20 is the preferred oil thickness. It's best to use synthetic motor oil for this vehicle. However, in colder regions, traditional oil may be a better option since it tends to be slightly thicker than synthetic oil.
