In 2014, the Chevy Equinox has different requirements for oil depending on the engine type. The 2.4 L L4 engine needs 5 quarts of oil, while the 3.6 L V6 engine requires 6 quarts of oil, including an oil filter. It is recommended to use SAE 5W-30 viscosity for both engines and avoid using other grades like 10W-30 and 10W-40. If you are in a climate that would benefit from using 5W-20, you can substitute that viscosity. Additionally, if you are in an area where temperatures regularly drop below -20 degrees Fahrenheit, it is acceptable to use SAE 0W-30.
The 2014 Chevy Equinox holds 5 quarts or 4.7 liters of oil for the 2.4L engine, but the 3.6L engine needs 6 quarts or 5.7 liters of oil.
