A Ford Escape has a transmission fluid capacity of about 4 quarts. To change the transmission fluid, start by ensuring the car is on a level surface and then open the hood. Next, locate the transmission fluid reservoir, which should be situated on or near the transmission itself, and locate the dipstick. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then pull it out again. Take note of the current fluid level and determine the amount needed to fill the reservoir. Using a funnel, slowly add fluid until the reservoir is near or at full capacity, being careful not to overfill. Once the reservoir is filled, securely close it up, and you're ready to hit the road.

Once it's empty, what will it take to fill it up completely? I added 5 quarts, but I believe it needs more.

I found this thread through a search and didn't notice the 2020 year Escape at the top of the page at first. Hopefully, anyone with an older generation 1st or 2nd Escape or Tribute with a 3.0L V6 engine may find some helpful information from my comments.

Neither you nor the first responder have mentioned the specific details. For the older models of Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute with the 3.0 V6 engine, I believe the total amount of fluid needed for a drain and torque converter change is approximately 10.7 quarts. When draining the fluid for cars with the 3.5-4 engine, you'll find multiple drain plugs at the bottom of the pan with a square shaped 3/8" drive size threaded plug. It's recommended to drain out about one-third of the total ATF at a time, then refill with the same amount, which is around 3.5-4 quarts of new fluid each time.

The older V6 3.0L Escape does not have a replaceable filter, so the only way to change it is by dropping the transmission and opening the case, which is an expensive job. Instead, it is recommended to drain and refill the fluid three times every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. After the first drain and refill, drive for a while, up to a few hundred or 500 miles, and if the shifting feels fine, then repeat the process. Make sure not to overfill the fluid; check the dipstick after adding 3 quarts, and use a long funnel to refill through the dipstick tube slowly until the level is in the crosshatches close to the full mark. Reinsert the dipstick, check it again while the engine is warm and running, and shift through the gears a few times. Once the fluid level is correct, take the vehicle for a short drive around the block for about five minutes to ensure everything is working properly.

Here's a paraphrased and revised version of the text: Hey, folks, none of my dashboard lights for the panel, gear, drive, neutral, and parking are working on my 2017 Ford Escape. I've replaced the transmission due to a transmission fault warning, but the issue persists.

Why do some individuals claim that 3, eventually 10, and 12 quarts? If the container is empty and not moving, it is extremely low and requires about 5 or 6 quarts, maybe even the full 12 it's designed to hold. It all depends on how low it currently is.
