In the 2005 Toyota Highlander, the coolant system holds 12.6 quarts of pre-mixed 50/50 coolant. To perform a coolant change, start by opening the hood to locate the radiator positioned at the front of the engine bay. Connected to the radiator is the coolant reservoir, which features a drain plug, fill plug, and dipstick. Check the coolant level using the dipstick and add more if needed when topping up. For a complete flush, open the drain plug to allow the old coolant to pour out into a container. You can use water to aid in the flushing process until the coolant appears mostly clean. Close the drain plug, refill the reservoir to the indicated cold or cool line, and secure the cap back on.
