The Ford Ranger 2.3L needs about 6.2 quarts of oil, plus a filter, using SAE 5W-20 oil recommended. Oil plays a crucial role in keeping your engine parts cool, lubricated, and prevents excessive wear and damage by reducing friction between moving components. An oil change for your Ranger typically costs around $100. It is advisable to get an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. Signs indicating it's time for an oil change include increased engine noise, knocking sounds, an oil smell inside the vehicle, shaking at idle, higher mileage traveled than usual, and the appearance of the Check Engine or Oil Change warning lights.

Some of the responses here are truly astonishing! Have any of you bothered to check the owner's manual? If you pop open the hood, it clearly states on the oil cap to use 5W30, not 5W20. When changing the filter, it should take around 6.2 quarts.

A Ford Ranger holds 4 quarts of oil with the filter, or 6.2 quarts with the filter for the 2.3L Ecoboost version.
