The water pump in the 2008 Ford Fusion often fails, so it's crucial to understand how to replace it. Whether the pulley, bearing, or water pump housing is the issue, it's essential to replace the part promptly to avoid coolant leaks, overheating, or serpentine belt failure. Begin by parking on a flat surface, applying the parking brake, and disconnecting the battery. Take out the bolts from the bottom splash guard, remove it, and drain the engine coolant. Disconnect and set aside the coolant reservoir. Unmount the water pump pulley by removing three bolts, clean the area thoroughly, and install the new hardware. Reassemble the components in the reverse order, and lastly refill the coolant.
