To clear the airbag alert in a Ford Escape, here's a simple procedure you can follow. First, insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position. Secondly, keep an eye on the light; it will stay lit for about seven seconds before turning off. Once it goes off, switch the ignition off and wait for three seconds. You may need to repeat this process once or twice before it takes effect. Once you start the engine, the SRS light should turn off. If the airbag light remains on, it could be due to the airbag being deployed previously. If this isn't the case, or if you haven't disconnected the battery, it would be best to visit a dealership to ensure there are no other airbag-related issues.
To reset the airbag on a Ford Escape, first turn the ignition to the on position and wait for the airbag light to illuminate and turn off after seven seconds. Then, promptly switch the key off and pause for three seconds before repeating these steps twice. Afterward, start the engine to complete the airbag reset process.
Not functional on a 2011 model.
Awesome advice, I followed it twice and now the "check engine" light is no longer on. Appreciate it!
I've attempted this 4 or 5 times, but it still isn't functioning correctly.
In 2009, I tried to make it work but it didn't. Recently, I obtained a spare key that only works for the doors and ignition. I'm not sure if this is related to the original issue.
Here is a rephrased and personalized version of the text: I tried this and it didn't reset the odometer or anything else. I realize now that I was supposed to keep it turned off for 3 seconds, which I forgot to do. I'll give it another shot in the morning, making sure to wait longer this time. All I did was hit my brakes hard, and it turned on.
I attempted it, but I didn't give it the full three seconds.
Sometimes, a wire in the seatbelt sensor may be damaged, broken, or disconnected. It is important to also inspect the fuse for any damage. Make sure to thoroughly examine for any other problems that you, as a DIY mechanic, can resolve without needing to go to the dealership. Happy to assist!
Absolutely do not attempt this! The action resulted in the removal of the odometer and associated details, but did not eliminate the airbag symbol. The Ford dealership indicated that they will need to access the dashboard to address this issue.
It didn't work for me either.
