It's uncommon for a blown fuse to cause issues with the power lift gate on a Toyota RAV4, compared to other vehicle parts with fuses. Sometimes, the problem could be due to cracked hinges on the gate. In some cases, mysterious malfunctions or "slight technical glitches" may be the culprit. To reset the liftgate, follow these steps: Open the liftgate and keep it stationary, then press and hold down the rear liftgate close button. You'll hear 4 beeps. Make sure to use the button located on the door jamb of the liftgate, visible only when it's open. Keep holding until you hear another beep, then release the button. Close the liftgate and check if it now responds and opens correctly.

Hey, can you tell me where the button is in the glove compartment? I can't seem to find it. When I try to open the lift gate, it only opens a little bit and then starts beeping. If I press the button again, it beeps and the lift gate only moves up a tiny bit.

Hold down the rear liftgate close button until you hear 4 beeps. This may resolve any issues with the liftgate not functioning properly.

Check inside the glove compartment and find the switch to open and close the rear hatch. This tip worked for me. Occasionally, the switch may get activated, especially when replacing the cabin air filter located near the glove box. The four beeps indicate the height at which the door opens. Resetting the four beeps only affects the opening height and doesn't change anything else.

Hello Ola, were you able to resolve your problem? I'm experiencing the same issue as well!

We just got a 2015 Rav 4, and the automatic trunk is very finicky - frequently opening only a tiny bit. We've taken it back to Toyota three times, and each time they say they fixed it. It works fine in the garage, but then goes back to only opening a centimeter. We're considering trading it in because it's become incredibly frustrating.

I'm dealing with the same issue on my 2018 Rav4. I'm going to drive to the dealership about 250 miles away. Hopefully, they can resolve the problem, or else they'll owe me two full tanks of gas.

I simply visited the dealership and got this issue resolved. To reset it, refer to the instructions in this discussion and press the button on the rear hatch, holding it until you hear five beeps.

What specific part can resolve the issue with the liftgate on RAV4 rear doors?

My device was disabled in the car's settings.

The same problem persists – unable to start in low temperatures, requiring several trips to the dealership for resets only to have the issue recur the following day. It's frustrating!

I had a similar issue with my liftgate only opening and closing partially. I recently replaced my 5-year-old battery and performed a reset multiple times, which has now fixed the problem. To do this, turn off PBD in the vehicle settings, manually open the liftgate fully, then press the close button to hear a series of beeps. Close the liftgate manually, power the vehicle back on, turn PBD back on, and cycle the vehicle on and off. After repeating these steps four times, the liftgate is now working as expected. It seems that Toyota's factory batteries may only last two to three years and could impact electrical operations. I'll update you if the issue reoccurs. My vehicle is a 2018 gas model.

I have been experiencing a similar problem with my 2019 Rav4. It seems to happen randomly and always manages to resolve itself before I can take it in for service. The sunroof will sometimes only open a little bit a few times, but then it eventually opens fully. I've tried resetting it multiple times, but it's beyond frustrating!

Hey, can somebody lend a hand? The trunk of my 2016 RAV4 opens without issue, but when I try to close it using the button, it goes down and then stops about a foot from closing while beeping. I even replaced the shocks, but the issue persists. Can anyone provide some assistance?

My 2015 RAV4 has been experiencing this issue since hitting 55,000 miles. Despite repeatedly being told they can't find the problem, I've had to manually open and close it so many times that the hinges are now twisted. Look up the class action lawsuit regarding Toyota RAV4 liftgate issues and consider joining to have your voice heard.

I had some issues that were resolved by pressing the button located on the left side inside the glove compartment.

I have encountered a similar issue with my 2019 RAV4 where the trunk opens partially, stops, and then acts unpredictably even after resetting the height. It seems to operate normally at times but reverts back to the problem of partial opening when I try to open it again.

I'm having a problem with what I believe is a faulty sensor in the Liftgate.
